How Taco Night Led to a Third Date in Mexico
Abigail and James were first set up on a double date when he was on an overnight layover in Dallas from California. On his way back to the west coast, he stopped back in Dallas for their second date, where Abigail and her sister invited him over for taco night. They stayed up into the early hours of the morning dancing to ‘Midnight Train to Georgia’ while cleaning dishes. The next time they would meet was in Mexico, where James was tagging along on a trip with his brother’s young family. James reasoned that if they were going to date long distance, they might as well go somewhere fun - and so, on a leap of faith, Abigail agreed to join the trip.
She’s Got Style, She’s Got Grace
Abigail was thrilled to be able to be part of the ring design process so that she could savor every moment of it. She chose an emerald-cut diamond for its timeless style, citing Grace Kelly’s ring as her inspiration. She also wanted pave accents and unique side stones that would compliment her center stone. She had a very specific idea of exactly what she wanted, so it was exciting for her to see her dream ring be brought to life. They met virtually with their designer who talked them through the different design options.
The Dream Ring
The ring was born out of learning to dream together. Abigail would have been content to have her grandmother’s ring remade into her own engagement ring, but James encouraged her to dream bigger and design a ring that she could call her own. After a friend introduced them to Wove, they decided that this was the route they wanted to take. The ring represents a bigger story for Abigail. It symbolizes that she never has to settle for less because James is someone who wants to exceed her expectations beyond her wildest dreams. Although she notes that an heirloom ring has sentimental value, she appreciates that James wanted to create a ring that was meant just for her.
Yours Ever, Fair Star
They knew early on that they wanted to spend their lives together with James saying that Abigail brought color to his life, and her saying that life with him has exceeded all her wildest dreams. Since Abigail was so involved in designing her ring, James wanted to add in a little something extra as a surprise. He had ‘Yours ever, fair Star’ - a line from a John Keats love letter which became his nickname for Abigail, engraved on the inside of the ring.

Adding Color To Their Ring
Abigail and James relished the opportunity to be creative throughout the design process. They describe it as a mix of a learning experience and an artistic journey. Though Abigail may bring color to James’ life, they both had the chance to bring color to this ring. They got the chance to be creative with materials, such as metals and diamonds.
